xL-mast - is a competition entry made for a "A New High Voltage Power Line" arranged by DAL, The Federation of Danish Architects and Eltra in 2001. The proposal is made by kollision in collaboration with john rasmussen, jørgen kepler and claus leth bak, and it investigates the use of optimization software to design for other criteria than just form. By the use of the software odessy the pylon is calculated and parameters and criteria are changed in a dialouge between architects and engineers.

The proposal is made of welded corteen steel plates similar to constructions made for the off-shore industri. All stress is minimized in the construction and the final form expresses the main loads and forces working on the structure - a vrml 3D model is available here.
