On second year of architecture school we had to design a lamp using a regular light bulb and paper. Part of the project was exploring papers ability to function as shade.

My proposal has japaneese references in the very precise wooden frames with water glaced rice paper and the shadow casting ribbons carrying the box containing the bulb. The lamp should express the cone of light coming from the bulb carrying the paper shades gradually decreasing the intensity of light on each shade.

This project contains my first computer drawings - done in formZ. Unfortuneatly all that is left of these are the three grayscale posters to the right. The other renderings are from a 2 hour remodelling in rhino and max. The lamp is done in mahogny wood, piano wires and rough rice paper - the prototype is still shining!! - as the photos indicates.

The other lamp project - pipe lamp - was an idea I got after passing a dumpster that created a morre effect. By bending a sheet of perforrated iron i made a pipe or cylinder that gave the same effect. To add a more warm light I treated the iron with HCl-acid to force the iron to rust. The light source is a 50W halogen spot that sits in a concrete base. The combination of the very strong cold light and the red rusty iron generates a nice light sculpture that comes to life when you pass it.
