This rolling cube interface concept is inspired
by colorspace
that I did some years ago. However here a spatial interface is laid out
on a 2 dimensional plane. The cube can roll in four directions on the
plan changing its color depending on the color axis it rolls on. This
makes each little square on the surface unique by its color.
Interaction is done by pushing the mouse on the north, east, south or
west arrow, furthermore the cube can be opened on each square by moving
the mouse over the cube revieling some content - I have not worked much
on that yet but in this example it is masked images.
I tested the interface on a floor where the interaction was done by tracking
body movements much like ifloor
and floorQuest
but the use of perspective graphics and the constantly moving cube and
plane made me dizzy while interacting. A nice input would be a physical
cube much like the cubeSearch
where inputs by turning and opening the cube could be mapped to a digital
display.
To the right you can see how the interface is build up by different layers
- no actual translation, remember "it is only cheating if you get
caught".
To investigate other interaction modalities I tested controlling this
interface through speech, it works very well with six different speech
commands - see the video here (13mb)
